Campaign lead for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections, Prof Joshua Alabi has justified why the party obtained its highest ever votes in the Ashanti Region in the 2024 elections.
He explained the NDC’S 33% of votes obtained in the Ashanti Region in the 2024 elections could be as a result of their vigilance to ensure there’s no rigging of election, despite the low voter turnout recorded.
“Our duty was to make sure that we get those who are registered to vote and once we get only those who have registered to vote then we have reduced a gap from pardon, that was a key thing to do so we were very vigilant on that.
“So sometimes it’s true there was low turnout but to some extent low turnout can be as a result of our vigilance and make sure people will not come to vote 3 or 4 times,” he said on Hot Issues on Sunday, December 15.
Prof. Alabi noted that some big wigs in the NDC believe that the party’s votes obtained in the previous elections are not the actual votes obtained.
He said the percentage of votes obtained in the Region in the 2024 elections is a true reflection of its support base and will work to improve that in the subsequent elections.
“Some of us maintain that the votes we get in the Ashanti Region are not the real votes.
“In this 2024 elections, it is the true reflection and I believe that we are yet to perfect that and in the 2028 elections, it might be better than this,” he added.
