Hearts of Oak head coach, Aboubakar Ouattara fired back with a blunt response to a reporter’s question in a post-match press conference, following Hearts’ third successive league loss to bitter rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Kotoko edged Hearts, inflicting the Phobians’ first loss in their last five outings, thanks to Albert Amoah’s 95th-minute strike, after capitalizing on a defensive mishap between Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare and defender Kelvin Osei Asibey.
In post-match interview when the gaffer was was quizzed by a journalist whether he believes his team gave the win away to Kotoko, Ouattara expressed his frustration with what he perceived as frivolous questioning.
“You asked me if I give the gift for Kotoko, I said no; they deserved to win this match. Let us be serious. Don’t take the question from lotto ground in Kejetia and bring it here, please.”
Hearts lost twice in the league last season and missed out on winning the Democracy Cup to Kotoko in the offseason before the late mistake gifted Kotoko a fourth win on the bounce.
Kotoko relished supremacy over their bitter foes last season, after overcoming them in both home and away league encounters, and also lifting the inaugural Democracy Cup at Hearts of Oak’s expense.
Despite the frustrations, the Ivorian tactician acknowledged that Kotoko deserved their win, and emphasized that his focus is now on preparing his team for their upcoming matches. With four games remaining in the first round, Outtara is confident that Hearts can still turn their season around.
“I lost the match, I lost three points, that’s the most important thing. In football, the most important thing is to score. Kotoko scored, they deserved their three points; I lost my three points. I have another four matches to go till the end of the first round, who told you I can lose the four matches? Kotoko won, bravo to Kotoko, finish. I’ll go and think about my problem to prepare my team for other matches.
Hearts will host Berekum Chelsea in their next league encounter and Ouattara would be hoping his side can shrug off the defeat in the Super Clash and return to winning ways.
