Asante Kotoko earned a crucial win over Nsoatreman FC in an outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture at the Len Clay Sports Stadium, moving the Porcupine Warriors up to second place on the league table.
The match, initially scheduled for matchday two, was postponed due to Nsoatreman’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, where they were eliminated by CS Constantine.
After a cagey first half, the game finally sparked into life early in the second half. Just two minutes after the break, Nsoatreman defender Issahaka Mohammed accidentally headed a cross from Dauda Saaka into his own net, giving Kotoko the lead.
The Porcupines had a chance to double their lead through midfielder Fernando Bassey, but his effort hit the side netting after a well-executed one-two with Emmanuel Antwi.
Nsoatreman’s night worsened when Daniel Moo received a second yellow card in the 79th minute, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
This win marked Kotoko’s first home victory of the season, keeping their unbeaten record intact under coach Prosper Narteh Ogum.
They will next face Accra Lions on Saturday as they look to build on their strong start to the campaign after finishing a disappointing sixth last season.
Nsoatreman, meanwhile, will aim to bounce back in their next fixture against Legon Cities.
