Asante Kotoko failed to secure victory despite an early lead, settling for a 1-1 draw against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park on Sunday in the fourth round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors started brightly, taking the lead just three minutes into the match when Kyei Dwamena finished off a well-timed cut-back from Dauda Saaka. Kotoko, hoping to rebound from their previous draw against Young Apostles, looked in control during the early exchanges.
However, Berekum Chelsea fought back, and their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when captain Fuseini Zakaria leveled the score for the home side. Both teams pressed for a winner, but neither could break the deadlock, leaving Kotoko with back-to-back draws.
For Chelsea, the result mirrored their season so far, as they have managed just one win, coincidentally also against Karela United. Kotoko, meanwhile, are still searching for their second win after their opening-day triumph over Karela.
Elsewhere in the league, Nations FC held Hearts of Oak to a goalless draw, while Bechem United earned their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Dreams FC. Medeama SC maintained their excellent form, defeating Holy Stars to go top of the table.
Young Apostles pulled off the upset of the weekend, beating Aduana FC 3-2, while Karela United shocked Legon Cities with a 2-0 away win. Samartex handed Vision FC their first top-flight defeat, while Heart of Lions and Bibiani Gold Stars played out a goalless draw.
