The Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye has embarked on a two-day road inspection tour of the Volta and Oti Regions to ascertain the level of progress on ongoing road projects.
The first day of the tour took the Minister to the 26 kilometre Atimpoku- Juapong -Asikuma road and the 10.5 kilometre Ho -Sokode-Gborgame dual carriage road where he was briefed on how, when and what was in place to ensure a successful start of the projects.
The sector Minister continued to inspect works on the upgrading of a 5.3 University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) internal roads as well as the dualization of Ho by-pass: Sokode-Etoe-UHAS-Titrinu. He also inspected the Asikuma-Kpeve-Have eastern corridor road.
Mr Asensi-Boakye who inspected the effects of the flooded culvert on the Alabomi- stream at Juapong said no physical damage was caused to the culvert. He assured that the dredging would be carried out to pave way for easy flow of water.
The Minister blamed the recent flooding situation on the culvert on constant human negative activities. He mentioned that refuse has filled the stream.
The Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) Mrs Faustina Oppong -Yeboah said the Atimpoku -Asikuma road project involved resealing and sectional repairs, which was carried out by First Sky Construction firm.
The Volta Regional Urban Road Director, Mr Edward Annan said the 10.6 dual carriage road from Ho to Sokode – Gborgame started in 2017 and completed in May 2024 and handed over to the government.
Mr Annan explained that the dual carriage road has improved the traffic situation.
He said traffic education on the road was carried out to improve on traffic and promote safety on the road.
