Asamoah Gyan has refuted claims of an altercation involving midfielder Sulley Muntari and Moses Amah ‘Parker’ during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Reports suggested that Muntari physically assaulted Parker over disputes regarding appearance fees, leading to Muntari’s suspension from the team.
However, Gyan dismissed these reports during an interview on Onua TV’s Onua Maakye show.
Gyan clarified that Muntari did not slap Parker as alleged, stating, “Sulley [Muntari] never slapped anybody.”
While Gyan chose not to delve into further details, he emphasised that Muntari was not involved in any such incident.

Following the reported altercation, Muntari faced disciplinary action and was expelled from the team’s camp for indiscipline, resulting in his exclusion from the national team.
The incident strained relations between Muntari and Parker, but they have since reconciled.
Muntari’s expulsion from the team marked a significant event in his international career, as he was not called up again until his retirement from international football.
Meanwhile, Ghana exited the tournament from the group for the first time as they lost to Portugal in their final group game.
Meanwhile, regarding a similar disciplinary incident at the Black Stars camp, Gyan had earlier confirmed that Kevin-Prince Boateng had verbally assaulted then coach in charge, James Kwesi Appiah further highlighting Muntari’s innocence.
“Kevin’s case happened at the training grounds between him and the coach in front of everybody. So that was the coach’s decision cos coach felt Kevin disrespected him several times with his choice of words.
“One thing Kevin didn’t know is we defended him behind the scenes several times. But on that day, the coach couldn’t take it anymore and reacted. That was the first time I saw Kwesi Appiah get angry and react. So Kevin’s case was the coach’s call. That’s the truth as the captain of the team,” Gyan wrote on Twitter in October 2023.
Similarly, the former AC Milan and Schalke 04 never earned a call-up to the national team.
