The Ghana health service says it has covered 70% of all houses in the Ashanti region since it begun taking data for the pending bed net distribution exercise
About four thousand volunteers are currently on the ground visiting homes and distributing unique codes which will qualify households to receive free bed nets in November.
The enumeration exercise which has been in session for the past five days is expected to end on Wednesday 10th of October 2018.
Speaking to Ultimate News on a monitoring tour of the Malaria Control Program the National Manager of the Program Dr. Kezia Malm admitted that the successes chalked so far has been impressive.
She told reporter Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “In the rural areas, what we are seeing is that when you go in the day time, people have gone to the farms and in the urban areas people would have gone to work so we encouraged the volunteers to go either early in the morning or late in the day where people are in their homes.”
Giving updates on coverage she disclosed that, “So far on day five we have hit about 74% of estimated households that we planned to do. We hope that by the end of the seventh day we would at least hit our 90% target.”
She was positive her outfit under the Ghana Health Service will hold talks to do a mop up after the period elapses even though she was optimistic there wouldn’t be any need for an extension of dates.
