Residents living at Abuakwa – Tanoso and beyond have reiterated calls for government to re-engineer their roads to ease the age long traffic jam the area has become synonymous with.
The road which is used by vehicles transiting through Ashanti region to the Brong Ahafo and Western Regions is dreaded by commuters because vehicles can be held up on that stretch for hours.
Some residents who have been speaking to Ultimate News complain the situation is affecting productivity of workers and hampering the education of children who use that road to and from school.
They are calling for a dual carriage to be constructed from Tanoso to Abuakwah to ease the traffic flow.
A frustrated bus conductor who uses this road frequently bemoaned the trend and believes authorities know what to do to remedy the situation.
“The traffic is very bad. We don’t even get money when it happens that way. The little we make, we spend it on diesel and give the rest to the car owner. We plead with the government to complete the road because our passengers always complain,” he lamented.
The situation is also having a toll on the police personnel at the motor traffic and transport department of the Abuakwah police station. Even though they will not speak on record, they admit it becomes stressful especially on Fridays controlling traffic on the stretch.
