The Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson has assured the people of Brong Ahafo region that, “more projects are coming to their region”.
This according to her will be achieved through the Middle Belt Development Authority, as part of the implementation of the $1 million per constituency program promised by the President, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Minister disclosed this when she paid a working visit to some selected constituencies in the region to inspect the progress of work on the ongoing construction of community-based water systems and ten (10)-seater water closet institutional toilets facilities in some rural and deprived communities.
At Berekum East Constituency
Madam Hawa Koomson also paid a courtesy call on the Akyempimhene of Berekum Traditional Council and Chief of Jinijini Traditional area, Nana Baafour Tutu Asare II.
The constituency is currently benefiting from three (3) 10-seater water closet institutional toilets with mechanised boreholes at Mpatapo, Biadan and Mpatasie communities and three (3) solar powered limited mechanized boreholes with solar panels at Jinijini Bokruwa High Tension, Jinijini Pentecost and Jinijini Suntreso communities.
At Jaman North Constituency
Jaman North Constituency is also benefiting from similar facilities at Asantekrom, Febi, Adinkrakrom, Jimini – Sampa, Seketia, and Suma – Ahenkro.
The District Chief Imam of Jaman North, Alhaji Seidu Adam, who received the Minister, commended her for ensuring that his community, a predominantly Muslim community, was also considered for such intervention.
He mentioned that, these facilities couldn’t have come at an opportune time since the only toilet facility serving his community was closed down 10 years ago and his people had to resort to easing themselves at the bush.
The Minister on her part assured the Imam that, more of such basic but very important infrastructure aimed at alleviating the difficulties people go through to access them will be provided through the newly established development authorities.
“Government acknowledges that, the citizenry, especially those at the rural and deprived communities as yours, have difficulties in accessing some basic but very important infrastructural needs. That acknowledgment partly formed the basis of President Akufo-Addo’s creation of my Ministry to pay special attention to these needs.”
She added “These interventions form government’s specific strategy to meet the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) which targets providing clean water and sanitation for all irrespective of location.”
The government through the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives is also providing similar facilities in all the 29 constituencies in the Brong Ahafo Region.
In addition, the region is also benefiting from the construction of six (6) 1,000 metric tonnes pre-fabricated grains warehouses at Wenchi, Atebubu, Busunya, Techiman and Sunyani as part of One District One Warehouse (1D1W) initiative.
