Chief Executive Officer for Ghana’s Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille Jnr, has told International Oil Companies seeking to have Joint Ventures with their Ghanaian counterparts that the commission is in a hurry not to make mistakes but to ensure Ghanaians are placed at key and strategic positions in order to drive the accelerated oil and gas programme.
He was speaking to some International Oil Companies at Aberdeen, Scotland at the ongoing Trade Mission.
According to Mr Faibille, the Commission is worried when it has to issue permits to drill ships to employ expatriates for low positions and common services such as NDT hence a need for a more sustainable approach to nip that practice in the bud.
He said government will consider tailor made programmes to get Ghanaian youth trained, equipped and certified by the needed International accredited bodies recognised by industry players.
Government is very much committed to creating employment and ‘we don’t want a situation where over a period of exploitation, our resources will be lacking adequate capacity internally’, he said to the IOC’s.
