A Canadian Mining Company C&G Aleska mining in Wassa Juabo Forest is still mining in the forest despite Tarkwa High Court injunction order stopping it from mining in the forest.
On November 16, 2016, the Tarkwa High Court ordered the Canadian Mining Company C&G Aleska to stay away from the Wassa Juabo Forest since their operations is illegal.
A letter intercepted by Ultimatefmonline.com revealed that on November 29, 2016, the Minerals Commission urged the C&G Aleska Mining Company to cease forthwith all forms of operations including prospecting since its prospecting license do not permit them to engage in extraction (mining) on the concession.
On November 30, 2016 the Mineral Commission suspended the mining lease of the C&G Aleska Mining Company while government on January 30, 2017 terminated its mining lease through the minerals commission.
The spokesperson for Wasa Youth Association Mr. Evans Kwafo speaking to Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo said the Tarkwa High Court placed an injunction on the land where the foreigner is mining but the court injunction has been defied by the C&G Aleska Mining Company.
According to Mr. Evans Kwafo, the company is still mining in the forest under the protection of some soldiers and private security officers.
Mr. Kwafo revealed that the miner C&J Aleska Mining Company has been mining at both Wassa Juabo in the Western and Jacobu forest reserve in the Ashanti regions respectively.
He said all water bodies in the area have been polluted by the activities of the C&J Aleska Mining Company despite government’s ban on illegal and legal small scale mining across the country.
Mr. Kwafo however urged the Chief Justice and President Akufo-Addo to implement the Tarkwa High Court order to stop the C&G Aleska Mining Company from mining in the area.
“We will demonstrate against government if it fails to implement the Tarkwa High Court
