Robert Asare Bediako, the close contender of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly called Chairman Wontumi has stepped down from the regional chairmanship race.
Wontumi is now going unopposed.
Mr Bediako is said to have stepped down following his meeting with the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Kwahu in the Eastern region over the weekend.
Sources close to Mr Bediako told Ultimatefmonline.com that his followers who are disappointed in his decision fear supporters of Chairman Wontumi will subject them to victimisation.
He is expected to come out with an official announcement later in the day after he has held a meeting with the elections vetting committee of the party in the region chaired by F.F Antoh.
The Founder and Pastor of Christ Revival Baptist Church Prophet Adu-Boahen has prophesised that ‘Wontumi’ would lose his position if Mr Bediako contests.
Municipal Metropolitan District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region this morning threw their support for Wontumi.
