The Former President John Dramani Mahama has described as ‘disproportionate’ the arrest of the Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He wondered why the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is a human rights activist will allow armed men to arrest Mr Anyidoho in the middle of a press conference.
Mr Mahama wrote on his Facebook page, ‘As a party that prides itself in the non-criminalization of speech, with a self-acclaimed human rights activist as President, the arrest of K. Anyidoho with armed men in the middle of a press event is obviously disproportionate. More so, the high-handed police response to innocent citizens waiting at the CID HQ is condemnable’.
Mr Anyidoho who has been kept in custody was yesterday (Tuesday) charged with treason following his comments in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM that there will be a civilian coup to remove the Akufo-Addo’s government.
He said the civilian coup will be borne out of the US -Ghana military deal which was ratified by Parliament on March 24, 2018.
‘There will be a civilian coup d’etat. There will be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday,’ Mr Anyidoho said.
