A Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Stephen Atubiga has called on Ghanaians not to be afraid of civilian coup comment made by the Deputy General Secretary of the party.
He added that Koku Anyidoho’s comments should not create fear and panic amongst the citizenry saying Koku didn’t mean any harm.
Mr Atubiga said most politicians have made such grievous comments but were left off the hook asking why Koku is treated differently.
He said they will abide by the rules of the Constitution but will not rest until Koku is released saying they will resist any attempts of intimidation.
Speaking during a demonstration by NDC members, Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF) and other groups, he said, ‘Nobody is above the law, we have seen that happen before in this country, people have said worse and they have been left off the hook. We will abide by the rules and regulations and the Constitution. But we are not leaving until Koku Anyidoho is released. I don’t think what our brother had said is anything that anybody should be afraid of.
‘We heard a whole siting President Nana Addo who was a Flagbearer of NPP who said ‘all die be die’ in this country. We never touched them, I don’t think Koku Anyidoho meant any harm, and I don’t think NDC knowing him very well he meant any harm, the interest of NDC is Ghana is bigger than NDC, Ghana is bigger than NPP and bigger than any individual. Ghana is bigger than anybody, and that is the principles of the NDC,… but what I can say with authority without fear is that nobody can intimidate me’.
Mr Anyidoho appeared in court today (Wednesday) after he was yesterday (Tuesday) charged with treason following his comments in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM that there will be a civilian coup to remove the Akufo-Addo’s government.
He said the civilian coup will be borne out of the US -Ghana military deal which was ratified by Parliament on March 24, 2018.
‘There will be a civilian coup d’etat. There will be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday,’ Mr Anyidoho said.
