The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Portuphy has described as ‘sad’ the court case involving the Deputy General Secretary of the party Koku Anyidoho.
He has declared his intention to heads to court to support his colleague.
‘My Deputy General Secretary’s case is a sad one, I hear they are taking him to court now, so I’m going to leave here now and go to the court, yes me as the Chairman, we cannot desert this demonstration and we cannot be divided, let the rest be here and I will go with a few people,’ he said at the demonstration grounds.
Mr Anyidoho is set to appear in court to today (Wednesday) after he was yesterday (Tuesday) charged with treason following his comments in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM that there will be a civilian coup to remove the Akufo-Addo’s government.
He said the civilian coup will be borne out of the US -Ghana military deal which was ratified by Parliament on March 24, 2018.
‘There will be a civilian coup d’etat. There will be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday,’ Mr Anyidoho said.
Mr Anyidoho was arrested Wednesday during a press conference organised by the NDC at the International Press Center, Accra.
Some members of the NDC are also expected to go to the court to support him.
