Residents of Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East District in the Ashanti Region have called on the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to deploy military officers to maintain peace in the community.
According to the residents, though police personnel have been deployed to the community, the situation is still the same.
One person was confirmed dead while scores of residents were injured in renewed clashes at Ahwiaa on Monday February 19, 2018 afternoon.
Assembly Man for Ahwiaa Overseas Electoral Area Agyapong Mensah speaking in an interview with Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo revealed that some unscrupulous youth on yesterday attacked teachers and pupils of Big Six International School at Ahwiaa resulting in the clashes.
The residents speaking to Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo said the situation is not calm as reported by the authorities.
“We heard the Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah speaking on radio that everything is under control saying his men are here to maintain law and order. What we can say is nothing is under control. The situation is still the same as yesterday. The Police alone cannot control, we need the military to come and maintain law and order here,” they said.
However, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah said 50 youth have been arrested following the clashes and they will appear before court today Tuesday March 20, 2018.
