The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) is rolling out a nationwide anti corruption campaign.
The program named the Accountability Rule of Law Anti Corruption Program (ARAB) is being funded by the European Union.
The ARAB comes at a time Ghana has dropped ten places in the corruption perception index with calls for the newly constituted independent special prosecutor to kick start its investigations of public officers alleged to be corrupt.
The programme is targeting interest groups, traders, schools and other private and public institutions to be trained in areas of Corruption and accountability.
The Ashanti Regional Director of the NCCE Mr. Wilson Arthur explains that the initiative draws from the National Anti corruption Action plan NACAP passed some two years ago, to serve as blueprint to tackle the illegal siphoning of public funds into private pockets.
He told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “last month, we had training workshops for all the 216 NCCE districts in Ghana including the regional offices and headquarters on corruption and accountability. After that they will be going out to educate Ghanaians on the need for accountability, why they should eschew corruption and why we should make sure that the rule of law pertains in Ghana.”
He added that the source document for rolling out the programme will be hinged on an NCCE survey which was conducted last year to find out the public perception on issues of corruption, the rule of law and environmental governance.
