It was a show of solidarity and support for roots as the old students association of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School handed over a milling edifice to their Alma Mater.
The forty six thousand (46,000) ‘Mmadwema’ Milling Block houses a corn mill, a vegetable mill and a flour kneading machine.
President of- the Old Students Association TECHSOSA, John Kofi Tandoh, indicated that the project which consists of two compartments is to ease the burden kitchen staff of the school go through in getting food items milled outside the campus.
“We saw the need for this milling project when we realized that they were milling outside and for a great number of students like this, we feel that it is better to have our own mill rather than going out to mill our corn and our vegetable.
He told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “We first bought the milling machines at a cost of fifteen thousand six hundred and ten cedis (GHC15 610) but we realized that they needed a place to keep it so we committed another thirty thousand eight hundred and sixty seven (GHC30867) for the installation and construction of the house.
The head mistress of the KNUST Senior High School, Joyce Owusu Ansah was elated the milling block will improve food hygiene and save the school cost of operations.
She recounted, “We were milling from outside the school and it was costing us so much because we have to fuel the car and take along the kitchen women to town to get the thing ready for us. At times when we go to mill, we meet a lot of people there and the time for dining was also delayed. Now that we have it here, we can save money for another thing.”
This will not be the first time the old students’ association of the KNUST SHS has made donations to the school.
The association helped in planting trees to green and beautify the school. It also contributed to the construction of the boys’ dormitory.
The body has provided a number of computers and books to stuff the library and computer laboratory of the school.
