The Special Prosecutor nominee Martin Amidu has stated that he’s not interested in antigraft awards.
According to him, he has rejected countless awards from institutions, NGOs including media houses who had wanted to honour him for being at the forefront of fighting corruption.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General said, he has been dedicating himself to the service of the country.
He stated that he has always told people to emulate his character and stop being fixated on giving and receiving awards.
Mr Amidu indicated that he has not lobbied for any awards explaining that he doesn’t like corruption fight to be personalised around him.
‘…Ours was to dedicate ourselves to the service of this nation with that, I mean making any efforts for recognition, because we joined the system not for awards but for what we can do for the people and if I’m right, you and I have lived that life and continue to live that life, that’s why there is no award.
‘I never lobbied for it, in fact people called me after my case in the Supreme Court and offered me awards, they have written to me and I have told them its not about Martin Amidu, its about Ghana, emulate what I’m doing, don’t give me awards, the last was the army award which they were giving me award for anti-corruption. Generally, I refuse awards, because I want it to be centered on national need of developing this country,’ he said.
