The Head Pastor of Christian Center Assemblies of God (CCAG) in Kumasi Rev. Osei Karikari Annor has entreated Ghanaian Pastors to desist from treating their church members with disdain.
According to him, Pastors who cast sneer at their members will only end up collapsing the churches they head and thus bringing the name of God into disrepute.
Rev. Annor indicated that Men of God are supposed to exhibit high sense of maturity thereby being role models for their congregation.
According to the powerful Man of God, its not a big deal for Pastors to apologise to their church members if they offend them.
Touching on ‘one man churches’ where the Pastors handle administrative work including finances of the church, he suggested to Pastors not to interfere in the work of their board members.
Speaking with Winfred Daniel Nii Adjaye on Ultimate Gospel Chat, Rev. Annor further advised Senior Pastors to respect junior Pastors who work under them.
He believes that church members will reciprocate if Pastors respect them saying putting up a commandeering posture will not augur well for the progress of the church.
The Head Pastor of CCAG advised Pastors to desist from putting up bossy behaviour which drags the name of the church in the mud.
‘…If you have some of these big people like doctors, lecturers, pharmacists, highly respected people in society with a blend of students in your church and most of the times if you are not careful, sometimes that inferiority complex will cause you to overreact and you will look down on them thinking that you are better than them.
‘But its a matter of having a free mind, respecting them, and they respecting you, because some of them are very respected in their offices. Respect them and they will also respect you. If you shout at them, always command, you try to identify yourself to the students that you are the Head Pastor, you should let them that you are not just a Pastor to them but a friend as well…There are certain appearances you cannot just pick and certain words you cannot use when they are around, you must know your boundaries,’ he advised.
He observed that some church members fear to get closer to their Pastors to share their problems with them fearing of being snubbed.
The respected Man of God said its pointless for Pastors to unnecessarily poke their noses in the affairs of their members, advising them to allow issues go through the various processes.
He urged Pastors to change the methods in which their members are rebuked through their preaching.
‘…I am not against punishing people in the church but I am against the method of bringing offenders in front of the pulpit for everybody to know that they have gone through a particular issue,’ he said.
With his rich experience in the Christian ministry, Rev. Annor has been able to manage CCAG which has people with different, backgrounds, age bracket and profession.
