Officials of the Kumasi High Court are in search of the Ashanti regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly called ‘Wontumi’ to give him a copy of writ of summons from lawyers of suspended General Secretary of the party Kwabena Agyapong.
It is unknown why the outspoken Chairman is playing ‘hide and seek’ with the bailiffs.
Chairman Wontumi is said to have gone into hiding after Mr Agyapong sued him for alleging that he was a pay agent of the NDC during the 2016 elections.
The vociferous Chairman accused the suspended General Secretary of collecting a plush car from Ibrahim Mahama, a brother to the former President John Dramani Mahama after working against the party.
Chairman Wontumi was given eight days to enter appearance in court after the writ of summons was issued but the days have elapsed and he’s no where to be found to receive the writ of summons.
Speaking on Abusua Nkommo with Kwame Adinkrah, Nana Fredua Agyeman lawyer for Kwabena Agyapong said copies of the writ of summons have been pasted in some courts as well as the party’s head office in Accra which indicates that Wontumi has been served a copy.
According to him, all efforts to locate Chairman Wontumi to give him a copy of the writ of summons have proved futile.
‘The Bailiffs attempt to find Wontumi in his house and workplace proved futile, so we the lawyers were directed by the court through an affidavit of non service which gives us the opportunity to paste copies of the writ of summons at NPP’s head office, High court and Circuit court notice boards. In law when this happens, it is deemed that he has been served a copy of the writ of summons,’ he explained.
Mr Agyapong is praying the court to demand an amount of GH¢400, 000 from Wontumi as punitive and exemplary damages.
Chairman Wontumi called the bluff of Mr Agyapong when he was asked to apologise over his defamatory comments.
