Otumfuo UK case: Kumasi Group shuts down Daily Guide Office

Some members of a group called Kumasi Youth Association (KUYA) this morning stormed and ransacked the office of Daily Guide office located at Fanti New Town in Kumasi.

The attack follows a publication by the Daily Guide on the banking issue involving the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Ghana International bank in which a staff of the bank was sacked.

The irate group locked up the office and pasted a notice on the wall warning the Newspaper to retract and apologise to the Asante king.

They argued that the publications by Daily Guide intended to drag the name of the king in the mud.

Some staff of other companies who share the same building (Adwoa Ponkoaa Memorial House) with Daily Guide have been stranded. The affected companies are threatening to sue the group.

Background:

A staff of the International Bank Mark Arthur was dismissed after it was reported that the Asantehene, summoned him to his multimillion-pound residence in Henley-on-Thames and handed him a bag containing almost £200,000 in sterling as well as $200,000 in US currency for saving at the bank.

The aggrieved banker, from New Barnet, Hertfordshire, a dual citizen of the UK and Ghana, drove to his own home with the cash and then took it in an Uber taxi to the bank’s City offices for deposit in the king’s account, he told an employment tribunal.

Mr Arthur after he was sacked in a statement said.“Mr Arthur has consistently confirmed in evidence that at no time did he suspect that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, did anything wrong’.
