The Minister of Health Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has stated that they have allocated 130 doctors to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) following a decision by the surgeons to suspend emergency admissions.
The new doctors are to fill in the gap at the facility following the exit of over 100 doctors who have completed their housemanship.
“We have actually allocated 130 doctors, we’ve got financial clearance for them to replace those that are leaving and they are going to come from beginning of October.
“But then those there who should stay on until these new doctors come to replace them, about 15 of them have vacated their post and they are saying that they wouldn’t work with Komfo Anokye Hospital so they are going to wait for postings at other facilities and that is what is causing the problem,” the Minister told Accra-based Class FM.
According to him, the financial clearance of the new doctors has been sanctioned by his outfit and Ministry of Finance.
KATH in a statement on Thursday said it was scaling down on its non-emergency medical services with immediate effect due to the reduction in the number of doctors.
