Uber Technologies, the online taxi hailing company, will today August 31, 2017 starts its operation in the Ashanti Regional Kumasi which is the second city in Ghana to experience the service.
Uber, has been operating in Ghana-Accra since 2016 with increasing number of transport owners signing up daily.
Other African countries where Uber operates include Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa and Kenya.
Speaking during the launch, the Uber General Manager, Sub Saharan Alon Lits said they operate in 12 cities, 6 countries and has 20k driver partners.
He remarked that Accra is their most exciting city in the Sub Saharan Africa hoping that business in Kumasi will boom as well.
Mr Lits explained that Uber provides safe, reliable and affordable services through its easy to use platform connecting drivers in real time with clients at the touch of a button.
“First download the App from the App Store, sign up, enter MoveKumasi, there is a free ride up to GHC15.00.
It’s the most convenient way to get a safe, reliable and affordable ride – the app detects your location, tells you about your driver in advance, and you can choose to pay with card or cash, which makes it easy and safer for both riders and drivers. You can even watch your wife whiles she is traveling on the road,” he stated.
He stated that Uber is not a transportation company but its an APP that seamlessly connects professional drivers and entrepreneurs who want to grow their businesses.
On his part, the Country Manager for Uber Kofi Agyare said they scrutinise vehicles to check their worthiness before they sign drivers on.
According to him, rickety cars will be rejected as its against their policies saying the safety of passengers is paramount to them.

He indicated that drivers with criminal records will also be rejected adding that contracts of drivers who constantly engage passengers in fights will be cancelled.
“Y? wo krom Kumasi!’ is reflective of Uber’s intent to partner with the people of Kumasi and key stakeholders like policy makers and regulatory agencies to further open up key business and economic opportunities in the region.”
“We have also ensured that the driver signup process is easy and seamless, with additional onsite support provided by our team of well-trained Experts at the Greenlight Hub. For a driver-partner to sign up, he/she must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle license plate number, vehicle insurance, and valid roadworthiness certificate. Drivers also undergo and must pass a rigorous screening process, and finally, complete the Uber training either at the Greenlight hub or online. The vehicular signup process is also similarly easy and stress free – because we are focused on creating a positive customer experience, Country Manager, Uber Ghana.
