The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has warned to resist any attempts by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to impose licensing exams on its members.
It wondered why the service would enforce a policy on teachers without proper consultation.
“We will not sit by for anyone to impose on us anything that will have diverse effects on our profession, we will not sit by for that to happen,” the Vice President of NAGRAT, Mr Angel Carbonu told Class FM.
Mr Carbonu expressed disappointment in GES describing the move as unacceptable.
“I am absolutely disappointed in the Teaching Council, the Ghana Education Service. I didn’t know why people think that you can run education in the media. It is absolutely unacceptable,’ he said.
The GES Public Relations Officer Rev Jonathan Bettey on Tuesday morning said on Ultimate Breakfast Show that teachers in the country will soon write licensing exams before they are allowed to teach in the classrooms.
But an incensed Vice President of NAGRAT said the modalities and criteria for the licensing have not been discussed with them.
