A Political Science Lecturer with the University of Ghana, Legon, Dr Evans Aggrey Darko, has stated that the discussion between the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and journalists went well.
Dr Aggrey-Darko indicated that most of the topical issues were raised during the interaction.
The President on Tuesday at the Flagstaff House engaged the media following his six months in office.
Speaking on Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, the Political Science Lecturer said he wouldn’t be quick to judge the reporters saying the various media houses might have discussed the specific areas of interest with their reporters.
He remarked that some of the questions were probing and others were tricky adding that the camera daring spirit filled the atmosphere.
‘Generally, I would say the discussion went well, lots of issues were raised, very topical issues were raised, very key sectors were covered, issues about agric, health, energy, corruption were all raised…The issues were critical and existent, the issue of jobs, what are we living in this world for?, if you take care of somebody, it gets to a point that the person has to be on his/her own. Get a decent job to do and be able to impact positively on society; if there are no opportunities, it creates lots of problems… All in all I think it was a good encounter that we had,’ he said.
Touching on the question asked concerning the Assin Central constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Agyapong’s constant criticisms against the President, he said conflicts are always not negative, saying sometimes they occur to establish relationships adding that it takes courageous people to deal with the issues.
‘A good number of his public engagements have inured to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) party…You may think that this is a necessary evil, you need to contain him… In politics one is very careful not to pre-judge certain things. So when you are dealing with these actors, you may be working behind the scenes to get things resolved. And would also want to advice the person that look we have structures within our party,’ he said.
He indicated that he does not support the argument of people taking their political parties to the cleaners saying vital information put in public domain could be used by one’s opponents during elections.
