Thirteen suspects who were allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of Major Maxwell Mahama have been discharged by an Accra Magistrate court.
The 13 were part of the initial 32 suspects charged with murder during a hearing two weeks ago. The remaining 19 including a woman, are still facing charges of murder.
According to the Police, they went back to Denkyiraboase to conduct some investigations and per the outcome of their findings, they have concluded the 13 must gain their freedom because they were not directly involved in the murder of the soldier.
The prosecutor on his account stated that the “police thought that the discharged suspects could help as witnesses in their case against the 19 persons who are still facing charges.”
The police then told the court that the remaining 19 still face murder charges until further investigations prove otherwise.
Major Mahama was lynched in Denkyiraboase in the Central region when he was mistaken to be an armed robber by residents of the town.
