West African Football Academy (WAFA) prodigy, Majeed Ashimeru, has labelled his late call-up to the Black Stars camp as a big surprise as he never envisaged such opportunity could come knocking at his door.
Ashimeru has been phenomenal to the Sogakope-based club which has seen them boss the premier league for the first time in the clubs history – maintaining their top spot for large part of the league.
His partner in crime as people will termed it, mesmerizing opponents midfield, Gideon Waja, as well as Zakaria Mumuni of Aduana Stars were also handed a call-up to join the national team camp ahead of their double friendly games against Mexico and USA on June 28 and July 1, 2016.
“It’s a surprise for me. I never expected it,” Ashimeru revealed to Ultimate FM Sports.
“There are a lot of experience players at the camp and I will be new there. Am only going to learn from them. It’s a dream come true because every Ghanaian player dreams of playing for the national team.”
The silky player went ahead to offer advice to the rest of the local players in the league to keep working hard and hold their heads up high.
“There is so much talent in the league. I will like to tell my colleagues not to rush but patiently wait for their time. As long as they work hard, their efforts won’t go unnoticed,” he advised.
The absence of the two players will create a huge vacuum in the midfield for WAFA as they visit bottom-rooted Bolga All Stars on match day 19 of the Ghana Premier League.
