The Akufo-Addo’s government has stated that the two Guantanamo ex-detainees living in Ghana have been comporting themselves well.
The Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid in a statement assured that the security agencies will continue to supervise the ex-detainees.
“Government wants to assure the nation that the ex-detainees, who have been comporting themselves well since their arrival in Ghana continue to be under the supervision of security agencies,” the statement said.
The statement called on the public to remain calm as government works around the clock to put in measures to address the Supreme Court order.
The Supreme Court on Thursday June 22, 2017 ruled that the hosting of the ex-detainees was unconstitutional directing that the agreement surrounding their arrival needs to go through parliamentary approval in accordance with article 75(2) of the constitution in the next three months.
The court was presided over by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo.
The two ex-detainees arrived in Ghana from the United States during the tenure of erstwhile Mahama administration.
