The Chief Justice nominee Justice Sophia Akuffo has described as distasteful lawyers advertising their profession on social media.
She indicated that it is wrong for lawyers to advertise their profession on such platforms saying it breaches the dictates of the profession.
Her comment follows the suspension of human rights lawyer Francis Xavier-Sosu for advertising on Facebook weeks ago.
There was public outcry as a section of Ghanaians have described as ‘unfair’ punishment calling for review of the suspension.
“Am a 67-years-old woman and I believe that dignity at the bar is as important as dignity of the judiciary…the idea of lawyers touting themselves on Facebook is personally distasteful to me and aside that the law is clear and the law is against touting. Lawyers can have websites but the law doesn’t allow for advertising on social media’.
