Black Stars defender Jerry Akaminko has come out to finally clear the purported tension circulating through the media between him and Rashid Sumaila on his injury suffered prior to 2014 World Cup.
Akaminko suffered a mysterious injury in a friendly game between Ghana and the Netherlands after landing awkwardly following an aerial challenge, which blighted his chances of making the final 23-man squad for the tournament.
Months after the incident, fingers were directly pointed at Sumaila’s doorstep as the brain behind the 29-year-old’s injury by consulting his spiritual father to carry out such an ordeal – a claim he has vehemently denied.
With both players called-up once again ahead of the Ethiopian game and the two international friendly, people were of the view that there could be tension brewing between the two centre backs but Akaminko revealed they are very cool and have been enjoying a good relation with the former Kotoko defender.
“The story was framed by someone and I heard it at my base. And more importantly I don’t see him that way so no need to call off the relationship I have with him,” Akaminko exclusively told Kumasi-based Ultimate FM Sports.
“The coach [Kwesi Appiah] is more intelligent and knows best. He wouldn’t have called us to camp knowing very well of a rift between us.
“He is not my enemy. We play the same role, meet and talk. People see things different from outside and from how we see it. There is no problem. It was good to see him.
“The issue is, how will you get to know whether it was him or not. It was framed by someone,” he added.
Jerry Akaminko has made 10 appearances for the Black Stars and scored one goal. He is bidding time to make the starting line-up in Ghana’s upcoming two friendly games against Mexico and USA.
He managed 15 appearances for Eskisehirspor and started 14 of them after coming out of injury.
