An investigation conducted by Abusua Dawuro has revealed that only hundred and ten (110) cars can have access to the Kejetia Bus Terminal when the Kejetia Redevelopment project in Kumasi is completed.
Kejetia was the biggest lorry terminal in the Ashanti Region before its redevelopment.
Abusua Dawuro’s Osei Kwadwo who visited the area reported that the space which was designated for a lorry terminal for drivers has been turned into stores.
This situation will be difficult for drivers entry to the market after completion of the project.
The first phase comprises construction work at the Kejetia bus terminal, to be completed within a period of 24 months, and estimated at $198 million, whiles the second and third phases, and would focus on the re-development of the Kumasi Central Market.
However both traders and drivers are complaining bitterly about lack of bus terminal in the Kejetia Redevelopment project.
Drivers and traders speaking to Osei Kwadwo said the decision by the contractor will affect trading in the region.
Before the construction of the Kejetia market, the contractor promised the traders and drivers that, Kejetia market when completed, will also have a convenient parking area for vehicles, modern bus terminal, fire station, clinic, police station, crèche, community facilities with modern security features, modern sewerage and sanitation facility for the users of the market.
However, the Consultant for the project (Contracta-Brazilian construction company), Emmanuel Danso in an interview with Abusua Dawuro revealed that the Kejetia bus terminal cannot occupy more cars after the completion of the project.
