Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are calling on Journalists in the country to be circumspect in their reportage regarding the death of Adwoa Agyarkwaa Anyimadu-Antwi in order not to offend sensibilities of deceased family, friends and the entire school.
In a statement issued by the school signed by the acting deputy registrar, University relations office Kwame Yeboah Jnr, it further called on the media to desist from drawing conclusions on the death of the 18-year old first year chemical engineering student.
It also called on the public to be decorous in their discussions as well.
‘We wish to state that the case is a coroner’s and the police has been informed. Whiles investigations are ongoing, we plead with the media and the general public to be circumspect and decorous in their reportage and discussions in order not to offend the sensibilities of parents, families and the entire university as a whole’.
Adwoa Agyarkwa Anyimadu- Antwi who was the daughter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asante Akim central constituency Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi hanged herself to death in her hostel room according to her colleague course mates who are also pursuing chemical engineering.
The deceased was found dead on Friday February 24, 2017 in her hostel room with a rope fastened to her neck and hanging from the ceiling.
It is unclear what might have triggered the suicide but sources at KNUST campus say she failed one of her courses and couldn’t bear the shame hence the suicide.
But, the school authorities have denied this claim saying she never failed her papers.
