Renowned gospel musician Nana Osei popularly called ‘Nacee’ is calling on the Ghanaian clergy to empower gospel musicians financially to reach international standards.
He entreated them to push their brands by investing in the career of gospel musicians to be at par with foreign artistes.
Speaking on Abusua FM’s Entertainment hosted by Austine Wood, Nacee bemoaned the rejection of gospel artistes by some pastors during events.
According to him, majority of pastors go in for other artistes who are not members of their congregation thereby offering them huge sums of monies whilst those who belong to those churches wallow in poverty.
He wondered why gospel musicians are giving GH¢100-GH¢200 after they had performed in their churches.
Nacee further complained that choristers in churches are not accorded the needed respect by pastors saying some pastors refuse to even offer bottles of water to these singers after performing to the admiration of the congregation.
He indicated that the big gospel artistes had the support of the church and that the upcoming ones should also be assisted financially to push their brands.
‘In some countries, musicians make monies out of their hit songs, but in Ghana some musicians are given royalties of GHC100-GHC200, it doesn’t matter how big the artiste is, how do you expect such people to grow their brands with such amount, we need that support and encouragement,’ he bemoaned.
He called on churches, corporate bodies and individuals to invest in the career of musicians through training and purchasing of instruments to push their brands.
‘The country needs to groom its artistes to reach higher heights which in turn will be national assets to be used during national events, it takes money, sacrifices and time to make an artiste popular to compete with international artistes, we need to believe in our own, we lack support and attention,’ he suggested.
