About seven foreign nationals including Ghanaians are reported dead in a renewed Xenophobia attacks in Johannesburg and Pretoria, South Africa over sale of substances suspected to be cocaine by some foreign nationals on Saturday.
In 2015, a wave of riots hit cities of South Africa as some foreign nationals living there including Ghanaians were brutally assaulted.
Speaking with Host of Abusua FM’s Drive Ike Da-Unpredictable, a Ghanaian- based in South Africa Evans Boateng explained that foreign nationals were also assaulted by South African citizens on Saturday at Pretoria West.
He claimed majority of foreign nationals are arrested upon renewal of their licenses adding that they have a hint the South African citizens will raid Pretoria this evening and on February 24, 2017.
This he indicated that majority of foreign nationals have locked themselves up rooms to prevent aggrieved South African citizens from assaulting them.
According to him, foreign nationals on each day are being assaulted for supposedly taking over jobs meant for citizens amidst threats of deportation.
‘Some of us are into shoe making, hairdressing business, barbering, that is what we the foreign nationals are doing here, even if you are qualified for a white collar job, you will not be allowed to work in their institutions, the rich ones own shops where they sell Ghanaian stuff. They are threatening to deport all foreign nations for taking over jobs meant for them. We don’t even know why they are accusing us falsely. They have started chasing us out of South Africa. We have a hint that a group of South African citizens will attack foreign nationals on February 24, 2017. Majority of foreign nationals have been in prison since December 2016,’ he explained.
According to him, a shop belonging to a Nigerian was ransacked by some South Africans, adding that he was beaten for selling substances believed to be cocaine.
Mr Boateng claimed the black police around looked unconcerned as the angry citizens mercilessly beat up the Nigerian.
He added that it took the intervention of armed white police to rescue the suspect from the irate group.
‘I cant tell if he is still alive or not,’ he said.
He alleged that the Ghanaian embassy has rejected them and that they are unable to seek help from officials at the embassy when trouble brews calling on government to send people who will assist them in case of troubles.
