The Minister-designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku’s approval hangs in the air as minority refuses to approve her nomination due to her inability to do her national service after completion of her tertiary education.
The rejection follows minority’s decision in a similar situation where they vehemently rejected the nomination of the Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Otiko Afisa Djaba.
The minister-designate during her turn at the Appointments Committee of Parliament said she did not do her national service as required by laws of the land giving reasons that she was out of the country.
“I was living in Nairobi, Kenya at that time and because my parents were there, I was not given the opportunity to be in Ghana to undertake the national service, so, no I did not do national service, I actually worked in Kenya; for the three months that I came out of university…I was not in Ghana at that time,” she explained.
