Lawyer Akoto Ampaw has been tipped by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to occupy the position of Independent or Special Prosecutor.
He has been championing media freedom over the years.
The office of Special Prosecutor which will be established by the end of 2017 will be handling corrupt related cases.
The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the electioneering in 2016 explained “an exclusive remit to investigate and prosecute certain categories of cases and allegations of corruption, including those involving alleged violations of the Public Procurement Act and cases implicating political office holders and politicians”.
He added that prosecutions of such persons “will no longer be tainted by perceptions of witch-hunting and selective justice”.
