The minister designate for Creative Arts and Tourism, Madam Catherine Afeku has intervened in the rumpus between the Edina Traditional Council and the Museum and monuments board concerning royalties due the Elmina Community from activities at the Elmina Castle.
The paramount chief of the Edina traditional Council Nana Kwadwo Conduah VI had threatened to close down the facility this morning as the authorities at the castle have failed to pay them their share of 20% of accrued revenue since June 2009.
However, the minister this morning placed a call to the chief appealing to him to exercise restraint as the new government will ensure the traditional authorities get what is due them.
The chief who is satisfied with the minister’s proposal has therefore agreed to rescind his decision to allow the castle operate.
