The Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti region, has placed a ban on funerals, drumming and noise making in the metropolis until the funeral of the late Queen mother and mother of the Asantehene Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II is performed.
The Asantehemaa whose demise occurred on November 14, 2016 aged 111.
The traditional one week rites will be performed at Manhyia on Thursday November 24, 2016.
A statement issued by the Chief of Staff of Asantehene Kofi Badu said, ‘In accordance with Asante custom, a ban has been placed on all funerals, drumming, and noise making throughout Asanteman until the funeral of the Asantehemaa’.
It added : ‘the thirteenth Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi reigned for 39 years. She has been the pillar of strength and source of wisdom behind the transformational reign of His majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. She passed away peacefully at her Palace on Monday 14, November, 2016’.
