Economist and Publisher Dr A.O Abudu has suggested to government and companies to advertise publicly jobs for employment in order to get the best people candidates to meet the job requirements in the country.
He believes this will help get rid of the ‘whom you know’ syndrome where all manner of unqualified people are employed based on nepotism and favouritism.
Dr Abudu bemoaned the country’s inability to produce common items for domestic consumption urging government to learn from Korea and Malaysia which have produced indeginous workforce.
‘My worry is the way we appoint people to all kinds of jobs. We appoint people by whom we know, this is not nice, my feeling is that every job in this country be advertised publicly, and let Ghanaians wherever they are whether in Ghana or outside compete and be able to get us the best people to do the job,’ he suggested.
Speaking during a public forum in Kumasi organised by Ultimate 106.9FM under the theme ‘The Leader Ghana Deserves’, he said leaders must get rid of functional illiteracy that has engulfed the country.
The Publisher encouraged the youth to desist from always getting fixated with social media and concentrate on the kind of leaders they wish to lead them.
He questioned why non performing pupils are pushed forward without being failed describing the educational system as a weapon of mass destruction.
‘Sovereignty relies in the people, meaning if enough people get angry they can change a government, those of you who are always preoccupied with social media, its good but you should be thinking about the kind of leaders you want. After 60 years of independence, we still have functional illiteracy and we live in computer age. We use them everyday and yet we have functional illiteracy as defined in terms of medieval period. This is a illiteracy we are taking into the future, we must get rid of this illiteracy,’ he said.
