Political crisis has erupted within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tatale- Sanguli constituency in Northern region following the summarily dismissal of the party’s constituency chairman, Mr. Kwasi Mpoah.
The trouble is between the Basaare and the Konkomba tribes in the party after the constituency secretary, Sandol Peter, allegedly openly said at a crisis meeting on Monday that all Basaares had been expelled from the NPP.
Mr. Bugri Naabu, the regional chairman last month unilaterally fired Mr. Kwasi Mpoah claiming series of allegations including gross misconduct levelled against him.
He had told Ultimate News that the party was forced to arrived at the decision after several talks to get the local executive appropriately conduct himself failed.
Several talks and engagements to subsequently reinstate the sacked chairman failed including a meeting supervised by a three constituency chairmen on Monday.
The development has sparked raw tensions between the two tribes in the area as the Basaares are accusing the regional chairman of tribalism and nepotism.
The Basaare tribe is accusing Bugri Naabu of unfairly dismissing their tribesman and forcing on them his own kinsman, Mr. Bintim, the acting chairman.
Some angry Basaare youth according to Ultimate News sources went on rampage Tuesday and threatened to burn the party vehicle.
One of the youth who spoke to Ultimate News said they will attack and assault the regional chairman any time he step foot into the constituency.
“If the regional chairman alone step here it is going to be a commotion.. We are going to beat him. Even the party van when they brought it they should have showed to the chairman but they sent it to the PC, we don’t have any problem but when they pack it at any Vice chair house we will not agree.. We are going to burn the car,” he said.
They have also served warning to the party’s vice presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to stay away from a planned rally in the constituency on Friday if they fail to restore Mr. Kwasi Mpoah.
“The regional chairman is trying to bring divisions in the party. We will not allow him because we see the reason for the suspension and if they didn’t come fast as possible to reinstate the chairman, we are losing the seat and Dr Bawumia would not come here to do campaign,” they warned.
The sacked opposition local executive told Ultimate News Mr. Bugri took GH¢500 to resolve a feud between him and other executives in the constituency only to turn round and serve him a dismissal letter.
He has therefore refused to vacate post and released party documents to the acting chairman.
Ultimate News checks have revealed that the party vehicle has been parked at the police station under police guard.
