The 9th Parliament has approved members of the Appointments Committee tasked with vetting President John Mahama’s ministerial nominees.
The committee was formalised on Wednesday, 8th January, during a meeting by the Committee of Selection, in accordance with Article 103 of the 1992 Constitution and Orders 204 and 205 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
The Appointments Committee is chaired by the First Deputy Speaker and comprises no more than 25 members. Its role is to recommend to Parliament, for approval or otherwise, individuals nominated by the President for positions such as Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, Members of the Council of State, and other constitutionally specified appointments.
The committee is chaired by the First Deputy Speaker and MP for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor.
Based on the parliamentary ratio of 183 NDC majority MPs to 88 NPP minority MPs, the following are the key members of the Appointments Committee:
Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah - Vice Chairperson
Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza - Member
Hon. Mahama Ayariga - Member
Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey - Member
Hon. Shaibu Mahama - Member
Hon. Alhassan Umar - Member
Hon. Alexander K. Afenyo-Markin - Ranking Member
Hon. Patricia Appiagyei - Deputy Ranking Member

In addition, the Committee of Selection also formalised the composition of the Business Committee, chaired by Majority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Deputy Chairperson. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Frank Annoh-Dompreh will serve as the Ranking and Deputy Ranking Members, respectively.
