The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in the prize money for the 2025 Total Energies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The tournament, which will be hosted in East Africa by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will now see the overall winner take home $3.5 million.
Before this, Morocco and Senegal, the winners of the 2020 and 2022 competitions, each won $1.25 million and $2 million in total prize money.
The new prize money is therefore 75% more than Senegal received for winning the last edition in Algeria.
CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe expressed his excitement about the increment in the prize money.
We are excited about the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024, and we have significantly increased the Prize Money of the Winner to USD 3.5 million, which is an increase of 75%.
We have also increased the total Prize Money of the CHAN Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 to USD 10.4 million which is a 32% increase.
He also highlighted the continental tournament's importance in providing exposure to rising talents in Africa.
The CHAN is an important Competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players and will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF Competitions.
Motsepe said the competition is part of CAF’s plan to invest in local football and make the game attractive to investors.
This Competition is part of our strategy of investing in African football and making it appealing and attractive to football fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners, and other stakeholders in Africa and worldwide.
CHAN 2024 will be played from Saturday, February 1, 2025, to Friday, February 28, 2025.
