Former Arsenal player Adrian James Clarke believes that Ghana international Kudus Mohammed could be the ideal replacement for the Gunners’ injured talisman, Bukayo Saka.
Clark said the Ghana international has what it takes to step up and lead Arsenal’s attack in Saka’s absence. Saka suffered a hamstring injury in Arsenal’s 5-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Saturday, December 21, 2024, and is set to miss about two months of action after undergoing surgery.
Despite missing five games through suspension, Kudus has been impressive for West Ham this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 13 Premier League appearances.
Saka, on the other hand, has contributed to 15 goals in 16 league matches this season, finding the back of the net five times and assisting another 10. The England winger has been both the creative outlet and danger man for the North London club this season, and his injury has been a big blow to Nikel Arteta.
However, Arsenal legend Clarke is optimistic the 24-year-old Black Stars player can bring Arsenal back to their previous level.
With Saka set to miss a significant part of the season, Kudus has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the upcoming January transfer window. Clarke, a well-respected figure at the Emirates, has urged his former club to consider signing the Ghanaian playmaker, believing Kudus’ talent is similar to that of the Nigerian-descent winger.
Kudus is a player Arsenal have shown long-term interest in. He’s an ideal replacement for Bukayo Saka and can contribute upfront as well. He’s a brilliant dribbler and a wonderful ball carrier. Could Arsenal test West Ham’s resolve with a bid this month?
Despite the speculation surrounding Kudus’ future, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make an official approach for the former Ajax midfielder. The Gunners could face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, who are also reportedly interested in signing him.
Kudus has earned 34 caps for Ghana, scoring 11 goals for the Black Stars. He ended 2024 as the player with the most successful dribbles completed in Europe’s top five leagues.
