Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has said he has plans to build Chelsea’s profile in Africa if he acquires the club.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) shocked the world when he revealed his intention to purchase the Premier League club.
This came after Roman Abramovich’s announcement that he was ready to sell the club after pressure was mounted on him in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
A spokesperson of the businessman has confirmed to the Daily Mail that Chairman Wontumi has plans to build Chelsea’s profile in Africa after the successes of Michael Essien and Didier Drogba.
According to the businessman, discussions have been held with the various parties involved in the sale have taken place.
“Chelsea has a lasting legacy in Africa, players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien are legends of the club; the opportunity to enhance the club's reputation in Africa is a very tempting prospect,” the spokesperson is quoted as saying.
“Restoring stability and ensuring there are no job losses are among the priorities.”
Chairman Wontumi is currently the owner of the mining firm, Hansol Company Limited and also owns a radio and television station in Kumasi.
Two weeks ago, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich announced his decision to sell the club after pressure was mounted on him in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

With many investors lining up to buy the club, Chairman Wontumi believes his gold-mining business can finance his purchase of Chelsea.
