Ghana’s goalkeeper’s trainer Richard Kingson says he’s currently monitoring about 15 goalkeepers for the Black Stars’ no.1 spot.
Kingson has come under criticism over the national team’s choice of goalkeepers following Ghana’s disastrous performance at AFCON 2021.
The 43-year-old was the one who scouted and recommended Joojo Wollacott, with the Swindon Town shot-stopper becoming the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper.
However, Wollaccot conceded five goals in three matches as Ghana exited the AFCON at the group stages, sparking questions over his quality.
This has led to calls for local goalkeepers Danlad Ibrahim and Richard Attah to also be given the chance in the national team.
With the Black Stars set to face Nigeria in a crucial 2022 World Cup qualifying playoff next month, it remains to be seen who will be in post against the Super Eagles.
Kingson, however, insists he has his eyes set on a couple of goalkeepers, including one on the books of West Ham United.
“I have about fifteen (15) goalkeepers I am monitoring for Ghana, some are in Africa, especially Mutawakilu Seidu, Annan of West Ham Utd and a host of others, he told Hot FM, as quoted by Ghanaweb.
Ghana will host Nigeria in the first leg of the World Cup playoffs on Friday, March 25, 2022, with the return leg scheduled for Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
