The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has said that any coach who allows people to interfere with his player selection doesn’t deserve to manage Black Stars.
Kurt Okraku maintained that Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac was the ultimate selector of the squad that played at the 2021 AFCON.
This follows the Black Stars’ disappointing outing in Cameroon, with the team exiting at the group stages after failing to win a single game.
“Milovan is the ultimate selector of players for the national team. When he names his squad, he sends it to a committee and justifies his call-ups to them. Nobody selects players for the coach,” the GFA boss told Asempa FM.
“Any Ghana coach that allows people to select players for him doesn’t deserve to coach the Black Stars.
“Milovan and his assistants selected the players and gave us the best players available at this time. He selected players who are very dedicated and ready to serve our dear nation.”
Mr. Okraku further stated that he understands the frustration of Ghanaians after the national team’s disastrous showing at the AFCON.
“They [Ghanaians] have every right to be very sad, they have every right to speak their minds about the performance of the team,” the GFA boss told Asempa FM.
“They were expecting that we would’ve qualified for the next stage and gone all the way to the final but that didn’t happen,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has summoned the leadership of the GFA to an emergency meeting following the Black Stars’ poor showing at the AFCON.
A statement signed by Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif said the performance of the team was hugely disappointing.
It further stated that an emergency meeting has been scheduled for Friday, with the leadership of the GFA summoned to discuss how to get the team back on track.
