Five men and one woman have died in a crash involving a minibus and a fallen container at Teacher-Mante on the Suhum-Nsawam road.
It is unclear where the minibus was heading to but the container which fell off a truck was carrying logs from Kumasi to Accra.
The container initially fell on a Toyota Land Cruiser around Teacher-Mante on the Suhum-Nsawam road but no significant causalities were recorded .
However the container was left on the road until Sunday dawn around 2:00am when the minibus rammed into it, resulting in the death of six people.
Ayensuano District Police Commander, DSP Charles Ahiamale, noted that the Toyota minibus "ignored police signals to stop" before the accident.
He told Accra-based Citi FM: “Police got to the scene [after the first crash] and made frantic efforts to get assistance from the Road Safety Commission and the Ghana Fire Service to assist them with a tow truck to remove the container from the road.”
“The driver of the minibus and the passengers were injured. We conveyed them to the Nsawam Government Hospital but they were pronounced dead this morning – five males and one female.”
