Nigeria have qualified for the World Cup in Russia
Nigeria’s dead rubber World Cup qualifier against Algeria could get some spice after Algeria’s coach labelled the Super Eagles as a team of “benchwarmers”.
Rabah Madjer, regarded as Algeria’s greatest ever player and the first African player to win the European Champions League with Porto was appointed to the national team job after a disastrous qualification campaign that saw them go through two coaches.
“I have studied the Nigerian team, apart from Iwobi, every other player is mostly a substitute for his team in Europe, but that doesn’t mean they will not be at the level to face us.
“The game against Nigeria is not a friendly match for me…to me it is the first game of the qualifiers for the 2018 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon,” he said.
Nigeria could field a weakened side against their opponents in Algiers on November 10 with a mind on their marquee friendly against Lionel Messi and Argentina on November 14.
Coach Gernot Rohr has indicated that his team will face Argentina as equals in Moscow.
