A teacher, James Asante has been handed 10-years prison term by the Kumawu Circuit Court for defiling an underaged school girl.

He committed the act at Woraso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Eastern region.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Thomas Zodanu disclosed to the court that the convict was the class teacher of the victim.
According to him, in February this year, he enticed the girl with the gift of a mobile phone and had sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecution further said that, the mother of the victim queried her on seeing her with the phone, knowing well her daughter could not afford a it.

It said the young girl then revealed to her mother that the phone was given to her by Mr. Asante, her teacher in exchange for sex.
ASP Zodanu said the victim’s disturbed mother subsequently lodged a formal complaint to the police, leading to the arrest of the convict.
